Your organization exists to give kids something they wouldn't otherwise have. That's the whole premise, whether it's a summer program, a safe place after school, or a family in transition who needed somewhere to land. A playground does that work directly. It isn't an amenity bolted onto the mission — for a lot of the kids who come through your doors, it's the good playground. Not one of several. The one.

Which means it earns the same care as everything else you put in front of them. We design for what a kid actually gets out of it: enough going on that thirty of them aren't queued behind one slide, climbing and spinning and balancing rather than three versions of the same motion, and a range of challenge so the timid seven-year-old and the fearless one both find their edge. Kids build coordination, nerve, and the ability to sort things out with each other out on the playground.

And if your doors are open to everyone, the playground is where that gets tested. Kids who use wheelchairs, kids who need somewhere quieter, kids who aren't ready for the tallest thing yet. None of this is funded the easy way. It's a grant, a campaign, a service club that adopted the project, a donor who wants to leave something behind.
